Students and staff at Mountwood Academy in Preston, Lancashire hosted a Christmas Fair in December 2018 raising £76.19 for Rock FM Cash for Kids. The Foundation was pleased to support Cash for Kids, and Mountwood Academy, by match funding their event.
Kieran, one of Mountwood’s service users, heard about Cash for Kids on the radio, and wanted to help raise money with the aim to support other kids across Lancashire.
Cash for Kids supports children and young people under 18 throughout the region, with mental, physical or sensory disabilities, with behavioural or psychological disorders, living in poverty or situations of deprivation, suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.
Kieran organised the event and enjoyed getting everyone involved to help. He said;
“staying calm and positive was challenging; finishing all the items for our sale was the most rewarding”.
The day showcased their wonderful creative talents by selling arts and crafts and performing live music.
Students were also able to practice their employability skills; cooking festive food to sell in their Creative Café.
The event was supported by staff and students, and everyone agreed that with Kieran’s view that a “friend in need is a friend indeed”.
As well as having a fun day they were pleased to be able to also make others happy at this time of year. The whole team were delighted that the CareTech Foundation were able to double their funds to go to a good cause.
Well done to Kieran, Jane (Assistant Head Teacher), who applied for the match funding, and all the students and staff at Mountwood Academy.
