The Foundation provided match funding to Lisa Kelly, Support Workers at CareTech Community Services’ Carlisle Lodge, for her magnificent – and very hot! – efforts to support Pilgrims Hospices. Below, Lisa writes about her sponsored challenge and the support she received from the Foundation:
“I started running in February 2017, which is something I never ever thought I’d do. I used the Couch-to-5k app which gradually builds up your running over an 8-week period. Over time, I was running longer and further than I ever thought possible. Along with running, I started losing weight and have lost 6 stone to date. I decided to set myself a challenge of running the Folkestone Coastal 10k run in May 2018, which was the furthest that I would have ever run.
I decided to raise money for a local charity, Pilgrims Hospices, a charity that is close to my heart as they provided support for my gran in her last few hours. Not only do they provide care for terminally ill patients, they support the families too.
On May 27th, I completed the Coastal 10k run in 1hr 14 mins on possibly the hottest day of the year! I was extremely proud when I crossed the finishing line knowing I had completed my challenge and raised lots of money for the charity – £765 to be exact. When I heard through my manager that the CareTech Foundation had a match funding scheme, I decided to apply to boost my donations. The process was very easy and Karishma spoke with me at length and talked me through the process. Within a few hours, I heard that I had been accepted and a cheque for £250would be raised and sent to Pilgrims Hospices, boosting my total to over £1000!
Anyone who is thinking of running… Do it!
Anyone who is thinking of setting themselves a challenge… Do it!
And anyone who is thinking of raising money for a charity, make sure you apply for match funding from the CareTech Foundation! If I can you can 😁”
