In October 2019, Denise – a CareTech plc support worker in Manchester- took part in the 10k Hope Walk for Papyrus.
Taking place across the month of October, HOPEWALK is a month of walks up and down the UK, organised by supporters with help from Papyrus. Some people, like Denise and her family and friends, choose to walk in memory of a loved one, others choose to walk to fundraise and raise awareness.
The aim is to get the conversation around suicide started, in order to #SmashTheStigma #ItsOkNotToBeOk #Adamslegacyfund
Denise and her family and friends, were walking in memory of Adam, Denise’s nephew, who took his life in 2015 at just 22 years old. Denise said:
“Fundraising for Papyrus has helped us all massively on our road to recovery”
The whole team were able to raise a fantastic total of £1,800; and the CareTech Foundation was pleased to be able to support Denise’s fundraising with a match fund of £250. Denise commented:
“It has been a very tough few years since the passing of my nephew and Papyrus is a charity which is very close to the hearts of myself and my entire family. So, on behalf of us all, I just want to say a huge thank you to Clair and the whole team at the CareTech Foundation for this fantastic match funding opportunity. The £250 added by the CareTech Foundation has boosted our total above the £2,000 mark, which is just such an amazing result for us. We’re all absolutely made up 😊”
