Service users and staff from across the CareTech family have raised almost £3,800 for Macmillan Cancer Support. They have been holding charity coffee mornings in schools, care homes and offices across the country, and the money raised has been boosted by match-funding from the CareTech Foundation.
Anyone can get involved in a Macmillan Coffee Morning by baking (or buying!) a cake and bringing it along for everyone to enjoy. The events not only raise money for a great cause but they give an opportunity to come together and discuss one of the big taboos of our time. It is estimated that one in two of us will get cancer at some point in our lives and so events like this give an opportunity to not only reassure but raise awareness, too.
The coffee mornings were organised by people from across the CareTech family; from schools to care homes to head office, throughout the country.
Pupils at one school in Worcester decided to support Macmillan and raised a fantastic amount of money by baking cakes in their own time, setting up a cake stand, organising teas and coffees for staff and visitors. Despite being a very small school, with just 3 pupils, between them they managed to raise £60, which will be boosted through the CareTech Foundation’s match funding.
The pupils at Darwin School in South London held their own coffee morning in September, raising £55 at the event.
It was great to hear the pupils’ understanding the importance of the cause, too, with one student saying, “This charity should be important to everyone because it can touch all of our lives”, and that the best part of the day was watching people have fun while raising money for a good cause, especially after weeks of careful planning.
At the Mallards care home in Norfolk, carers and residents chose to support Macmillan, as it was a cause close to all of their hearts. Carers, residents and their families came together to enjoy a great morning of cakes and coffee, raising £450. Everyone particularly enjoyed the tombola and raffle, and the generosity of those who donated prizes was appreciated by all.
Here are some pictures of staff and residents enjoying the day:
The team at CareTech HQ also held their own coffee morning in September with all employees invited to come along to sample colleagues’ home-baked cakes or muffins, very kindly donated by Chuggs, a local coffee shop. The event raised £160, which will be boosted to £320 through the CareTech Foundation.
The Cambian team decided that a coffee morning would be a great idea to bring colleagues and members of the community to the opening of their new offices in December. After a grand tour of the impressive new building, with visitors commenting on the homely, family feel to the office, which has been designed to put visitors at ease in the surroundings. The event was also a great opportunity to bring together the office staff and the incredible foster parent team to enjoy the treats on offer as well as a lovely performance from pupils from the nearby Market Bosworth school, who entertained the guests with lovely renditions of Christmas carols. The event was a roaring success raising £500 on the day which has now been boosted to £1,000 by the CareTech Foundation!
The amazing fundraising efforts of everyone across the CareTech family will support the incredible work of Macmillan. In total, the coffee mornings raised £1,950, which will be matched by the CareTech Foundation to bring the grand total raised for Macmillan to £3,800.
