The CareTech Foundation was pleased to support a staff member who took part in the Dart 10k on 14th September 2019.
The Dart 10k was the first, and is arguably the finest, 10k swim on the open water calendar and 2019 is its tenth year. It has grown from 200 swimmers to 1600. The course of the Dart 10K is a unique journey punctuated by landmarks such as the Cormorant Tree, the white rock, Sharpham boat house and Bow Creek.
It’s supported by volunteers from the local and swimming community who make it special.
The staff member swam for Level Water, a charity that provides specialist one-to-one swimming lessons for children with physical and sensory disabilities.
Once each child has learnt to swim 15m front crawl and backstroke, they can be safe and independent in the water, and can join group-swimming lessons or join their local competitive club.
But it’s not just about swimming… Through developing independence in the water, and being able to join mainstream classes, each child develops confidence, self-esteem and resilience.
Their aim is that if they can help to give children physical, social and emotional confidence through sport, they can change their trajectory in life.
The staff member raised £346 for the Charity, match funded by the CareTech Foundation with a donation of £250.
