Christine Marlow an Administrative Worker from APV House raised a commendable £215 from her afternoon tea party to in support of her local community. Below, Christine explains
“We held a Garden Party in July to raise funds for a local church. The Church is located in a poor area of Stoke-on-Trent, where all the families who attend the children’s activities are single parent families and many of the children have special needs to a lesser or greater degree. Along with the Church, a small group of mainly elderly volunteers provide activities for children and their parents as well as for Senior Citizens groups.
We planned the Garden Party to help with the refurbishment of a building. There are two community groups who use the building; one a cancer support group and the other a community craft group.
We were really looking forward to enjoying the sun that we had been experiencing for weeks – it had been hard work keeping the plants watered and looking good! Who was to know we picked the first day of rain for weeks?!!!! Not daunted by the turn in the weather, there was a good turnout and it quickly changed from a Garden Party to a Tea Party! Everyone crammed into our small bungalow and a good time was had by all – everyone went home a few £s lighter and a few lbs heavier thanks to strawberries, scones, choc cake and lashing of fresh cream!
Thanks to the Match Funding provided by the CareTech Foundation, the Garden Party has now doubled the donations to just under £500. Thanks CareTech – it’s a great boost! Keep up the good work supporting the efforts of your staff supporting charities.”
