Support for People With Physical & Learning Disabilities & Mental Health Issues: Delivery & Increasing Capacity

National Theatre:
Public Acts

In June 2022, The CareTech Foundation began a three-year partnership with the National Theatre to support the delivery of the Public Acts programme, showcasing how the creative and social care sectors can work together on a national scale to make a lasting impact in communities.

Public Acts is a nationwide initiative to create extraordinary and ambitious new works of participatory theatre. It is built on sustained partnerships with theatres and community organisations across the country that share National Theatre’s vision of theatre as a force for change. Such as CareTech, involving residents, users and staff in watching and participating in the performances.

In an era when levelling up feels like empty rhetoric, it's good to see Public Acts genuinely creating a more level playing field for the marginalised

So far, the CareTech Foundation has supported Public Acts in London, Doncaster, Sunderland, Stoke and Trowbridge. Following a period of community workshops and rehearsals, Public Acts delivered a successful community production at Cast Theatre entitled ‘The Doncastrian Chalk Circle’. 102 people participated from different community groups and organisations across Doncaster, including local creative groups “All That Jazz School of Dance” and “Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band”. The community cast performed three amazing shows across the August Bank Holiday weekend.

“They supported me so much with my emotional state and especially with my health conditions. I am over the moon with the amount of support that I did receive. I couldn’t have done it without their help”
