Sense International:
Screening & Early intervention for children with deafblindness

In July 2022, The CareTech Foundation began a three-year partnership with Sense International in Temeke, Tanzania, a high poverty district, to provide sensory screening and early intervention for children and advocate for the government to adopt the model. 24 health facilities are now fully operational and equipped appropriately with increased capacity to deliver sensory screening; 49 nurses, four occupational therapists and 24 community health workers have been recruited and received specialised training.

The resources have enabled the screening of 8,338 babies and children for sensory impairments;  135 children with disabilities have received bespoke early intention therapy, including training of 69  parent carers to support their child through home-based therapy, exceeding the goal of supporting 100 children.
