Well done to CareTech Holdings plc Group HR Director, Nasir Quraishi who is busy training for the London Marathon this April to raise funds for the CareTech Foundation.
Nasir will be joining some of the best distance runners in the world, including Mo Farah and Vivian Cheruiyot, to take on the 26.2 miles of the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon.
David Weir, the most successful athlete in the history of the London Marathon, returns for a remarkable 20th successive year. The six-time Paralympic champion, who has won London eight times, first raced in the 2000 London Marathon at the age of 19 when he finished fifth.
The London Marathon was founded by Chris Brasher and John Disley and one of its founding aims, which still underpin everything that London Marathon Events Ltd does today, was “To have fun and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world.” The London Marathon has demonstrated this every year since 1981.
As well as being a fantastic sporting event, the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon announced a world-beating landmark in the history of the world’s greatest marathon as fundraising from the event reaches £1,000,000,000 – or £1billion.
Although Nasir may not be challenging Mo, or breaking the world record of 2:03:05 set by Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge in 2016, he is well on his way to reaching his fundraising target. As Nasir said,
“I am looking forward to the challenge and hoping to enjoy being part of such a momentous day. As a bonus I’ll be raising funds to support the CareTech Foundation, enabling them to in their aim to deliver meaningful impact to communities in need”.
Jonathan Freeman, CareTech Foundation CEO added;
“We are enormously grateful to Nasir for putting himself through the pain of running the marathon to raise funds for the work of the Foundation! With the funds Nasir raises, we will be able to do even more to support charitable causes around the country and overseas.”
