Breast Cancer Now
Along with her friends, Laurie Kilby, a Residential Care Worker, took on the Lake District Ultra Challenge on the 13th of June in aid of Breast Cancer Now. With the support of the Foundation through the Match-Funding Grant, the group raised over £3,000 for a worthy cause. Read below to see what motivated them to take on this challenge.
“Three years ago, my friendship group was hit by some devastating news, our best friend at 29 years old was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has fought and fought the disease but unfortunately, the cancer spread to her spine and she was diagnosed as terminal. As a group we are very close, and were lost and didn’t know what to do to support our best friend. We decided that an activity together was the way forward and we felt we needed to raise money and awareness for a fantastic charity, Breast Cancer Now. We set out to complete the Lake District Ultra Challenge, a 26km walk across the Lake District."
"Unfortunately six weeks prior to the walk, I tore the soleus in my leg, I saw a physio and worked hard on rebuilding the muscle, I strapped it up and off we went. We raised over £2,795 between us, we were overwhelmed by everyone’s support and greeted by our best friend at the end to reminisce and smile about our journey together. We were so happy when we heard that the Caretech Foundation were going to match fund £250 to add to our collection, meaning that we raised over £3,000 in total!”
