Monmouth Flood Aid
Last month, in the small town of Monmouth, Wales, disaster struck as storm Claudia brought severe flooding to the area. When one of our colleagues reached out for support, we were able to respond quickly through our Community Grants programme.
We remain dedicated to supporting the communities connected to CareTech Ltd employees and service users. In times of crisis, we always stand beside those who need us most. Last month, that commitment was put into action when disaster struck in a small town in Wales resulting in a £5,000 Community Grants Award to provide relief to the people of Monmouth.
Monmouth, a community with strong ties to the staff of CareTech Holdings Ltd, was severely affected by the devastating impact of Storm Claudia. Torrential rainfall and rising river levels led to extensive flooding across the town, leaving homes and businesses badly damaged. As residents faced the immediate aftermath of ruined belongings, unsafe buildings and immense uncertainty, the need for support became clear.
A member of the community, currently employed by CareTech Ltd, reached out to the Foundation for support and stressed the need to act quickly. Understanding the severity of the situation and the emotional and financial strain placed on local families, we awarded a Community Grant of £5,000 to invest in relief and rebuilding efforts. While the destruction caused by the storm cannot be undone overnight, we are proud to be able to play a part in helping the town recover. £1,000 was donated to the Bridges Flood Relief Appeal, £3,000 was donated to the Mayoral Fund and £1,000 was awarded to a young family struggling in the aftermath while caring for their infant daughter. The Bridges and Mayoral Fund have an amazing impact on the community; this funding will help to get them back up and running as soon as possible to continue their vital work.
The impact of this collective support has already been felt. One resident described the ongoing challenges the community faces: ‘Monmouth is now slowly getting back to normal… There are still a lot of people that are displaced from their homes due to the level of flood damage…There is still an element of shock in the town.’ Her words echo the experience of many who are still navigating the emotional and practical consequences of the flooding.
She added that ‘the money donated and raised will be instrumental in helping these people and families get back on their feet.’ This gratitude reflects the resilience of Monmouth’s residents and the power of collective action during times of adversity.
As the community continues its journey toward recovery, we remain committed to offering support wherever it is needed most. Moments like this reinforce the importance of our mission: to make a meaningful difference to communities and stand in solidarity with the people at the heart of CareTech Ltd. With care and action, we can help communities rebuild and thrive.
