Carers: Increased access to support and resilience

This year, CareTech Foundation worked with 2 Partnerships that supported skills, resilience and employment progression, and 6 Partnerships that support unpaid carers with access to support and increased resilience.

Here are three examples:

Access Social Care

AccessAva Chatbot

The AccessAva chatbot is helping people understand and act on their social care rights. This year, new content was launched & accessed by over 1,500 care professionals, carers, and disabled people to access clear legal guidance.

User research informed major updates, improving accessibility and introducing templates that help users challenge decisions and secure support. A citizen marketing campaign has widened reach, while in-house development have strengthened AccessAva’s long-term sustainability.

Feedback shows users feel more confident navigating complex systems, with many reporting that AccessAva helped them secure assessments, respite care, and vital equipment.

The Milkar Campaign:

The Milkar campaign is Pakistan’s first national multimedia mental health initiative, designed to break stigma and increase access to care. Between January and June 2025, it reached over 11 million people through print media and 6.4 million digitally, sparking vital conversations about wellbeing. Featuring influential figures from psychiatry, government, and entertainment, Milkar showcased lived experiences and practical advice through TV, podcasts, and social media.

A new national baseline survey now provides one of Pakistan’s strongest evidence bases on mental health, guiding future policy, partnerships, and awareness efforts nationwide

The Open University

Carers Support Fund and Scholarships

The Open University is breaking down barriers to education for carers and care leavers across the UK. The PGR Carers Support Fund provides vital grants of up to £1,000 for postgraduate researchers balancing study and caring responsibilities, enabling access to respite care, conferences and dedicated study time. Alongside this, the Carers’ Scholarships Fund have supported over 140 undergraduate students to study free of charge. Many have already achieved milestone qualifications and progressed to further study, describing the opportunity as “life-changing.” Together, these programmes are creating flexible, inclusive routes to education for those too often excluded from it.
