Karen is an entrepreneur, a businesswoman, a farmer, a trustee and a non-Executive Director!
A former partner at PwC, Karen retired in June 2018, having worked in restructuring since 1991. During her career, Karen focused at various times on owner-managed businesses, public and private sector clients as well as PLCs (both UK-based and global organisations. She has experience of most sectors, but specialised in the following; agri-business, the health sector (both public and private), education and financial institutions.
Karen specialised in working alongside clients to simplify, rationalise or exit businesses. Her skills include board coaching and mentoring, people management, cost-reduction, improvement of cash forecasting and operational restructuring. This requires strategic agile thinking and strong stakeholder management.
Karen has a strong interest in the private health sector, having dealt with a large number of nursing homes suffering with low cash, poor provider relationships and failing standards. She a good understanding of the challenges facing the sector today and ways in which businesses can address these.
Karen’s other interests include:
- a farming partnership
- trusteeship of the William Robinson Gravetye Trust, responsible for the 750-acre estate and legacy of William Robinson, the botanist credited with the creation of the cottage garden;
- non-executive roles with the Education and Skills Funding Agency; and,
- consultancy contracts using her restructuring skills and expertise.
