Interest in the Foundation’s Match-Funding Grant scheme is gaining momentum since the Foundation’s launch, with an increasing number of staff taking advantage of the ability to double their incredible fundraising efforts for charity. A particular favourite charity to support is Cancer Research UK.
The Foundation has previously matched the fundraising efforts for Cancer Research UK of long-time CareTech employee Mary Purtill, who shared her moving story of her fundraising challenge after her husband was diagnosed with cancer here.
The Foundation has recently made a second donation of £250 to Cancer Research UK to match the efforts of Carol Harris Business Support Officer at CareTech Holdings PLC. Carol shares her story below:
The last couple of years have been tough on my family as we have lost a few family and friends to cancer: our best man at our wedding, my husband’s Aunty and a few close friends.
I really wanted to help and raise some money but you know what it’s like, you start off with good intentions but then something happens so you put it off.
When I saw the Cancer Research ‘Walk all Over Cancer’ campaign (walk 10,000 steps a day throughout March), I thought I could do that and keep fit at the same time! So, I signed up and shared my page with my friend on Facebook.
The first week was great as I was able to get my 10,000 steps in each day and felt very motivated. I found the second week more challenging as the weather was not good so I had to do most of my steps in the evening. I think I got on my husband’s nerves a bit walking around the house, but I made sure I got my steps in even if it meant staying up late!
As the month went on, it got easier and I managed to achieve my goal and raise £125 in the process. I then met Sara from the CareTech Foundation and they agreed to match fund the amount I raised, so I filled in the application form straight away and have now raised £250 in total.
Thank you!
