The CareTech Foundation is delighted to support Warwick Women’s Rugby Football Club (WWRFC), a team that was facing real difficulties securing financial support due to the ongoing pandemic.
WWRFC strive to be one of the most accessible and fun clubs at Warwick University. They stick close to their values of inclusivity, with the sport being welcoming to those of any size or strength, race, background, sexuality or gender identity.
With the popularity of Women’s Rugby growing every day, WWRFC plays a big part in getting those who have never had an opportunity to play rugby, onto the pitch. They have a range of players from those who have been playing all their lives, to those who just started at university.
Although increasing in popularity, Women’s Rugby is still noticeably less funded then their male counterparts. This can, unfortunately, be seen from university all the way to national level. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the local businesses that have supported the Club in previous years were simply unable to continue to support the club. Without the support from the Foundation, the club would not be in a position to allow these talented players to get onto the pitch and pursue their sport.
The team had this to say about the Foundation’s support:
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous community grant of £1,500 from CareTech Foundation as, with this grant, we will be able to afford coaching, travel, and equipment costs in this upcoming season even in the more restricting times of COVID.”
