Vale of Clwyd Mind, affiliated to Mind UK, is a leading mental health charity which provides sustainable services to support and care for people with mental health problems. One of the charity’s key projects is ‘Walking in Mind’ a group dedicated to helping local people maintain and regain good mental health, through participation in walking groups.
Supported with a £300 Community grant from the CareTech Foundation, the Walking in Mind walking groups have regular walks. Thanks to the support of the Foundation, the walking groups are able to get outdoors and enjoy the countryside, improving their health and wellbeing. The trips are all led by a trained walking group leader, and qualified Rescue Emergency Care First Aider.
Recently, a group of walkers visited the fabulous Newborough Beach on Anglesey. The group set out from Corwen and had a marvellous day, in which they had to paddle across to the island of Llanddwyn, where they had lunch on the beach, a beautiful walk around the island and back along the beach. One very brave walker even went in the sea for a swim!
The charity has seven regular weekly walking groups starting from Corwen, Llangollen, Ruthin and Rhyl, all of which are suitable for all abilities. Special walking trips are also regularly arranged, including Night Walks.
Hundreds of people are now taking advantage of this free activity – and gaining real benefits both mentally and physically. The project is only possible thanks to the backing of Vale of Clwyd Mind and the financial support the CareTech Foundation and other generous benefactors who help by providing transport and items such as head torches, maps, binoculars, nordic poles and much more.
Thank you to Ceri who nominated the project through the CareTech Foundation Community Grants.
