The CareTech Foundation is thrilled to announce that will be supporting the Swansea University Women’s Football first eleven for the upcoming season with a community grant.
The team is open to all female students and encourages more people to get into sport. They pride themselves on being open and inclusive, actively seeking to welcome new members from all backgrounds, and aims to be a safe and welcoming environment for prospective members with mental health problems.
The women’s football team is not funded like the men’s team, with the club being required to find its own funding for kit and transportation costs. The call for funding was noticed by Hellen Roberts, Marketing & Communications Manager with CareTech’s Children’s services in Wales. The CareTech Foundation was particularly impressed with the team’s long record of charity work and other community efforts. The £1,000 charitable donation from the Foundation will go towards new kit and transport for the upcoming season.
In recent years the club has raised over £1,800 for MacMillan, £1,000 for Prostate Cancer research and are currently raising funds for soccer aid. In response to the increased focus on mental health in recent years, particularly on university campuses, the club has this year decided to support the mental health charity Mind, a charity that the CareTech Foundation also supports.
Jonathan Freeman, CEO of the CareTech Foundation said,
“To be able to support a team like this is a great opportunity and one we couldn’t miss. Their focus on inclusivity and getting young women into sport is remarkable; it is clubs like this that lay the groundwork for the momentous growth in women’s sport in the last few years.
“We wish the team the best of luck this season in the FAW league and their cup campaigns, we can’t wait to see how you do and we’ll all be cheering you on!”
