We are thrilled to able to support CareTech employees, Jamie Beach, a training coordinator at NCLD, and Gary Williams, a RSW from Branas Isaf, who successfully completed the ‘Run the Month’ in January 2021 to support Prostate Cancer UK. With the Match funding support from the Foundation, they raised £1,500 for a charity dear to them.
Hear what Gary had to say about this challenge and how it inspired him to take on another running challenge in February:
“I decided to start running after Christmas for just my health and fitness really, but thought I could make a difference and run for charity. I contacted Prostate Cancer UK who informed me about the ‘Run the month’ fundraising event taking place in January. The goal of the challenge was to run 26.6 miles within the month.
I must admit for a non-runner like myself, I struggled to stay motivated. Working full time with children and young people with complex needs and being away from home for 3 days and 2 nights a week, I realised I would struggle to complete my miles. However, this charity really opened up my eyes and changed my lifestyle, and I am happy to say that I completed the month running in total 36 miles! With the generous donation of £250 from the CareTech Foundation, I was able to raise over £800 for Prostate Cancer UK. On top of this, I now run most days and ran for Cancer Research UK in February!”
