Read below to find out a little more about how the teams at Hidelow Grange School, Birch Coppice Children’s Services and the Potters Bar Head office, came together to support such an important cause.
“On Tues 28th September at midday, the staff and students at Hidelow Grange School gathered together to hold a Macmillan Coffee morning. It was a great success. Each student and some staff brought in home-made cakes and treats to sell. This included Al’s ‘shoddy sausage rolls’ (which were not shoddy in the slightest!), sweet Yorkshire puddings and some delicious flapjacks. The event started with a Special Assembly to celebrate students’ achievements over the term. One of the students made a short presentation about Macmillan: about the important work they do to support those living with cancer and why we were fundraising for this cause. Then everyone enjoyed the refreshments and had a nice time chatting with each other. We also held a Macmillan quiz and a Guess the Number of Sprinkles on the Cake competition.
We raised an amazing £90.03 which has been match funded by the CareTech Foundation making our donation into an impressive £180.06. This is a real achievement because we are only a very small school with 5 students. A big thanks to everyone who participated!

With the second lockdown nearing an end, staff and children at Birch Coppice Children’s Services decided that after a crazy couple of years, we would like to hold a fundraising event to help raise money for charity.
We discussed as a group which charity we would like to raise money for, Macmillan being the stand out choice for us all, as unfortunately many of us know someone who has been affected by Cancer. Macmillan Cancer Support do some amazing work, helping to provide practical, physical, emotional and financial support to individuals who have been affected by the condition. As a group we wanted to raise as much money as possible, to assist in keeping their essential services running for the people who need them most.
On Monday 16th August, the home hosted a Macmillan Garden Party, for staff, children and other local CareTech homes to attend. The event consisted of a bake sale, raffle, hook a duck, garden games and plenty of fun and laughter! Overall, the day was a huge success and a total of £471.20 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support!!
We would like to thank all the staff and children involved on the day, as well as to all those who attended and donated to such a worthy cause! We all had an amazing time!
We would also like to thank CareTech for agreeing to match our fundraising efforts, by donating £471.20, raising a total amount of £942.40!!
