Jennifer McKeen, HR Assistant at CareTech plc, was recently awarded £250 by CareTech Foundation to match her personal fundraising efforts for the Little Princess Trust. Jennifer tells us the story behind how and why she fundraised for this wonderful cause:
“I had planned to support the Little Princess Trust for about two years, so had grown my hair with the intention to donate about 14 inches of my hair for a wig and to also raise enough money from donations to fund a second wig. Whilst I was fundraising, my colleague pointed me in the direction of the CareTech Foundation and I am so glad that she did!
The Little Princess Foundation provide wigs, free of charge, to children and young adults who have lost their hair through cancer treatments or other conditions such as alopecia. This charity means a lot to me. Growing up, I had a few friends that lost their hair as a result of cancer treatments and seeing the positive impact of them having access to wigs really was the driving force behind my decision to support the Little Princess Trust.”

To some, a wig is a seemingly small thing. However, it can mean the world to a young person going through a very hard time. But they’re not without cost, roughly between £350 – £500 each, which for many families is a lot of money, especially taking into account other costs which arise while a child is unwell.”
I am so grateful to everybody who donated and also to The CareTech Foundation who match-funded my efforts to support a cause I care about so much. I am thrilled to say that in total so far I have now raised £793 and it’s still going! The match-funding scheme is amazing and I am proud to say that I work for a company who support their staff in helping to continue the incredible work charities do across the UK.”
