Today, Mike Adams OBE, Trustee of CareTech Foundation, shares his thoughts on Mental Health and our partners Skills for Care.
Caring for others can be hugely rewarding. The ability to provide a level of support to enable an individual to have an improved life is massively fulfilling. But, like all jobs, caring can be stressful at times. When things do get emotionally and physically draining it’s important that support is available and that staff have confidence in their
own resilience. At the CareTech Foundation we’ve partnered with the charity Skills for Care who are working to support social care workers and improve staff well-being.
Maintaining positivity not only benefits carers themselves, but also those they care for. Carers deliver a higher quality of care and make better decisions when calm and confident. Skills for Care is working to address workplace stress and mental health by helping employers address issues early and support staff to become resilient. The charity provides resources to help managers look at the stress levels and well-being of their staff, and they offer practical ideas about how employers can improve things.
We’ve been really impressed by the work we’ve seen as part of this partnership. Care workers are brilliant, selfless people, dedicated to improving the lives of others, but stress affects them just as much as anyone else. Our partnership with Skills for Care is fostering resilience to protect the mental health and well-being of care workers, helping them continue to deliver quality services, consistently.
